Hello and welcome to the latest edition of the JA Fitness newsletter.

As the cold, dark nights are drawing in it is very easy to stay in your warm, cosy house instead of going for a walk, or to the gym.  So I thought I should remind you when you should and shouldn’t exercise.

You should exercise when:

  1. You feel tired and can’t really be bothered.  After the session I promise you will feel much better.
  2. You feel a bit achy or your muscles are a bit tight.  Your body will benefit from warming, moving and stretching.
  3. You have period cramps, exercise will relieve the tension.
  4. You are pregnant.  If you exercised before you fell pregnant it is good to carry on, just with less intensity, and listen to your body.

You should not exercise when:

  1. You have a temporary illness such as a cold or flu.  You will have less energy and getting hot then cold again will not help.  Wait until you feel better.
  2. You have a stomach upset.  Wait until you are eating and drinking normally.
  3. You have a muscle strain.  Ice the area for 10-20 minutes and rest.

Now I have some exciting news.  I have been asked to warm-up the participants for a sponsored event called “All Walk Together”.  This is organised by Cancer Research and the money raised goes specifically to breast cancer.  The walk is on Sunday 28th October at 10am.  It is being held in Shorne Wood Country Park, which is near Gravesend, just off the A2.

The distance is 10k, which is 6 miles, and the emphasis is definitely on walking the course together, rather than running as fast as possible.  The capacity is 500 and it will certainly be my biggest class so far.  Let’s hope the sun is shining for all those brilliant people taking part.  I will bring you any news from the event in my next newsletter.

The reason for sending these regular newsletters is to encourage you to do some exercise for yourself and make it something that you enjoy.  You are welcome to ask for advice or share your exercise experiences with me.

Best wishes
